Finding your Growing Zone!

The first step to figuring out what vegetables are in season each month is to determine what "Zone" you live in. Each Plant Hardiness Zone is defined by an area with a similar yearly low temperature in winter. The further north you go, the smaller the growing season! This means that colder growing zones have fewer types of produce that they can grow and have less options in early spring and late fall.

The best place to find what Plant Hardiness Zone you live in is the USDA website. Click on the map to link to the USDA's website. Once you are there you can click on your state to get a better idea of where each zone begins and ends, or you can enter your zipcode!

Now that you know your zone, you can take a look at each zone's approximate harvest times for some of the most common fruits and vegetables. Check out my next post to see harvest times for each zone in the Midwest!
